All Subaru Model Lines Have IIHS “Top Safety Pick” Rating for 2010
Subaru of America, Inc. has introduced the new-generation Legacy mid-size sedan and Outback crossover wagons for 2010, making them roomier while significantly boosting fuel economy with a new available Lineartronic™ CVT (continuously variable transmission) and offering new top-of-the-line 3.6R six-cylinder models. The 2010 Forester and Impreza gain new Premium trim lines (replacing option packages), and there is a new top-of-the-line Touring trim for the Tribeca, which is now available exclusively as a 7-seater.
Every Subaru model is a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). All Subaru models for 2010 are equipped as standard with renowned Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), curtain side airbags, and 4-wheel disc ABS brakes with Brake Assist.
    2010 Legacy
    The
    all-new
2010 Legacy sedan provides a bolder design language in a larger midsize package, with a longer wheelbase, increased width and nearly four inches of additional rear seat legroom.
A new powertrain lineup features the new
Subaru Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission)
    , a new 6-speed manual transmission, a new, larger-displacement 6-cylinder Boxer engine and a new 265-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder Boxer engine.
Legacy is available in 2.5i, 2.5GT and 3.6R models, each with Premium and Limited trim lines, with the 2.5i also offering a base model at an MSRP of ,995.
The 2010 Legacy is built on a new platform that increases room and comfort while preserving the agility and fun-to-drive spirit of the previous model. A new rear double wishbone suspension enhances chassis dynamics and trunk space. All-wheel drive is rare in the midsize sedan segment, and only Legacy makes it standard on all models and trim lines.
Legacy 2.5i is powered by a 170-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine and, when teamed with the available Lineartronic CVT, achieves EPA fuel economy estimates of 23 mpg city / 31 mpg, essentially matching front-wheel drive competitors. The Legacy 2.5GT makes a leap in performance for 2010.
Available in Premium and Limited trim,
the 2.5GT is powered by a new 265-hp turbocharged / intercooled Boxer engine teamed exclusively with a new 6-speed manual transmission. Designed for the driving enthusiast, the Legacy 2.5GT is equipped to challenge some of the best names in the sport sedan field.
The new Legacy 3.6R -- available in 3.6R, Premium and Limited trim – offers a sophisticated blend of smooth performance, engaging road manners and comfort.
Powered by a 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder Boxer engine, the 3.6R is exclusively equipped with a 5-speed electronic automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters. Compared to the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine it replaces, the more powerful 3.6 has a similar external size and uses recommended regular-grade fuel vs. premium.
    2010 Outback
The fourth-generation of the World’s First Sport Utility Wagon
    ®
is a roomier and more capable interpretation of the vehicle that launched the crossover trend 15 years ago. Distinguished by bolder styling, the all-new 2010 Subaru Outback delivers enhanced performance, comfort and fuel economy. The 2010 Outback is offered in 4-cylinder 2.5i and 6-cylinder 3.6R models in base, Premium and Limited trim lines.
Outback 2.5i models are powered by a 170-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine, and the Outback 3.6R models have the 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder Boxer engine teamed with a 5-speed electronic automatic transmission. The efficient Outback 2.5i offers a new standard 6-speed manual transmission, or the available Lineartronic CVT. When equipped with the Lineartronic CVT, the 2010 Outback 2.5i achieves EPA fuel economy estimates of 22 mpg city / 29 mpg highway, making the roomiest Outback ever also the most fuel-efficient Outback ever.
A new rear double wishbone suspension enhances chassis dynamics and rear cargo space. The 2010 Outback is also 2.0 inches wider to improve passenger comfort and has more headroom than the previous model. Capability is enhanced with a segment-first swing-out roof integral crossbar design and an improved 8.7 inches of ground clearance. A larger fuel tank, now 18.5 gallons vs. 16.9, increases driving range.
    2010 Forester
The Subaru Forester crossover SUV was all-new for its third generation for 2009, and it quickly became a best seller for Subaru and garnered an array of industry awards. For 2010, the Forester includes Bluetooth
    ®
wireless capability for the available navigation system in Limited trim lines, with a microphone in the overhead console. Bluetooth allows hands-free phone usage with a compatible cell phone. A revised instrument cluster features easier-to-see colors. In addition, a new map light door interlock switch enables the owner to select the map lights to illuminate with door opening.
The new-generation Forester is built on a new platform that provides a major leap in safety technology, comfort, refinement and driving dynamics – a noteworthy accomplishment considering the award-winning standards set by the previous Forester model. Sophisticated double-wishbone rear suspension provides outstanding ride comfort and handling precision, and its compact design contributes to a wide cargo area.
The robust body structure, four-wheel independent suspension and up to 8.9 inches of ground clearance help make Forester capable for any road. Step-in height remains lower than many competitive vehicles, a testament to Forester’s sophisticated suspension engineering. The Forester is a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The 2010 Forester 2.5X, powered by a 170-hp 4-cylinder Boxer engine, is one of the best values in the compact crossover SUV segment, especially at its MSRP of ,295 that includes standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The new Forester 2.5X Premium adds a large panoramic power moonroof and interior enhancements and offers an available All-Weather Package (heated front seats, heated side mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer). The Forester 2.5X Limited model offers more luxury. For powerful, sporty performance, the 2.5XT and 2.5XT Limited are powered by a 224-hp turbocharged / intercooled Boxer engine.
    2010 Impreza
The 2010 Subaru Impreza line gains more of the premium amenities that today’s compact car customers are seeking. A new Premium trim line replaces an option package, and its standard equipment includes 16-inch, 12-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels and additional interior amenities. Comfort touches include a black leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise control buttons and a black leather-wrapped shifter handle. The 10-speaker AM/FM premium stereo includes a 6-disc in-dash CD changer featuring MP3/WMA audio file capability.
A new Special Edition Package for Impreza Premium equips the 4-Door sedan or 5-Door model with a power moonroof, fog lights and the All-Weather Package featuring heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer.
The 2010 Impreza line includes the 2.5i, the Outback Sport and 2.5GT. The 2.5i is powered by a naturally aspirated, 170-hp 4-cylinder Boxer engine and available in 4-Door sedan and 5-Door models. The available navigation system in the 2.5i Premium now includes Bluetooth hands-free phoning capability, with a microphone located in the overhead console. All Impreza models feature a new grille design for 2010.
The 5-door Impreza Outback Sport gets its outdoor spirit from the larger Outback model and shares the Impreza 2.5i powertrain, also featuring distinctive exterior trim plus suspension and interior enhancements. The fully equipped Impreza 2.5GT, also available in 4-Door and 5-Door styles, is powered by a 224-hp turbocharged/intercooled 2.5-liter Boxer engine and equipped exclusively with an electronically controlled automatic transmission with SPORTSHIFT™ for manual control.
The Impreza is a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
2010 Impreza WRX and WRX STI
After significantly boosting performance and handling in its iconic All-Wheel Drive Impreza WRX model for 2009, Subaru has made a model line change and added minor enhancements for 2010. A new Premium trim line replaces an option package. Also for 2010, the available navigation system now includes Bluetooth wireless capability, with a microphone in the overhead console. The standard Aero Package gains a new side sill design.
Powered by a 265-hp turbocharged/intercooled Boxer engine, the 2010 Impreza WRX is exclusively equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. The WRX engine produces 265 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 244 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm – compared to 224 horsepower and 226 lb.-ft. in the Impreza 2.5GT. Fuel economy for the 2010 WRX is an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city / 25 mpg highway.
The WRX’s standard 17 x 7-inch aluminum alloy wheels wear 225/45R17 summer performance tires, compared with 205/50R17 all-season tires used on the Impreza 2.5GT. The WRX Premium features a standard power moonroof, fog lights and the All-Weather Package with heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer.
Subaru’s iconic Impreza WRX STI performance flagship gains enhanced interior trim and user technology for 2010. The ultimate-performance Subaru is powered by a 305-horsepower turbocharged/intercooled 4-cylinder Boxer engine and features driver-selectable powertrain and dynamic handling controls for world-class sports car performance.
For 2010, black Alcantara upholstery with red stitching replaces gray Alcantara upholstery with silver stitching. The available Navigation Package now integrates Bluetooth wireless hands-free calling (for Bluetooth-equipped cell phones).
Far more than a modified version of the standard WRX, the WRX STI features unique body panels, engine, transmission, Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) All-Wheel Drive system, specially tuned suspension, Brembo
    ®
brakes, 18-inch wheels and exclusive interior appointments. Optional 18 x 8.5 in. BBS
    ®
forged aluminum-alloy wheels are available painted silver or gold. Dunlop SP600 245/40R18 summer performance tires are used with the standard and optional wheels.
    2010 Tribeca
The Tribeca crossover enters 2010 exclusively in the 3-row, 7-seat configuration in all trim lines (5-seat discontinued). New standard amenities include heated front seats and an auxiliary air conditioning unit with headliner-mounted vents in the second and third row seats. A new range-topping Touring trim line is equipped with additional luxury features over and above the Tribeca Limited, including: HID headlights; monochrome exterior paint scheme; power moonroof; rear vision camera with monitor in auto-dimming mirror; silver-painted roof rails; a silver-painted front underguard, and 7-spoke alloy wheels.
    A 385-watt harman-kardon
    ®
audio system, which features 10 speakers (including subwoofer), is standard for the Tribeca Limited and Touring trim lines, as is Bluetooth hands-free calling.
The Tribeca’s 3.6-liter 6-cylinder Boxer engine produces 256 horsepower and 247 lb.-ft. of peak torque and uses recommended regular-grade fuel. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard. The Tribeca delivers an engaging driving experience and is a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) and a 4-wheel traction control system (TCS) enhance the capabilities of the standard Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) version of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
